As a part of our Youth Development Cause, the MTN Scholarships program offers an annual opportunity to acknowledge and incentivize diligent and accomplished students studying in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions. They have designed three scholarship categories to cater to the distinct requirements of exceptional scholars. These include:

MTN Scholarships Scheme 2023

1. MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS)

Since 2010, the program has been open to qualified 300-level students pursuing Science & Technology-related courses in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions, including Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education. Through this program, MTN awards scholarships worth N200,000.00 annually to 300 deserving students until their graduation, on the condition that they maintain the specified academic performance standards.

2. MTN Scholarship for blind students (MTN SBS)

The MTN SBS was launched in 2012, specifically designed for blind students at the 200 and 300 levels, pursuing any course in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions such as Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education. MTN grants scholarships worth N200,000.00 annually to 60 deserving blind students until they complete their studies, contingent upon their ability to maintain the prescribed academic standards.

3. Top 10 UTME Scholarship

This was established in 2020 as an inclusion to the existing mtn scholarships program. Each year, the top 10 candidates who achieve the highest scores in the UTME, as announced by JAMB, are granted automatic qualification for the esteemed top 10 UTME scholarship. These accomplished candidates are awarded scholarships valued at N200,000.00, starting from their 100 level and continuing until their graduation, on the condition that they meet the specified academic grades.

MTN Scholarships Eligibility Criteria

1. Institution of study

The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) and MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) are open and available to Nigerian students studying in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions such as universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

2. Course of study

MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) is open to 300-level students studying Science & Technology related courses, in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).

MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) is open to 200 & 300-level Blind students studying any course in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).

3. Level of study

MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS):

The application is open to students who have completed their second-semester 200-level examinations and are transitioning to 300 level, as well as students currently in their 300 level. This is because we acknowledge that the academic calendar may not be synchronized across all public tertiary institutions.

The MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS):

The application is available to blind students in 200 and 300 levels studying at any Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions, including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. However, for blind students pursuing the 5-year Law course, only those in the 300 level are eligible to apply for the MTN Scholarship.

4. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)

The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS):

  • STEM Students in Public Universities and Colleges of Education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score of 3.0/4 or 3.5/5 (second-class upper credit)
  • STEM Students in Public Polytechnics must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program and must have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) Program.
  • Direct Entry level STEM students must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) program and must have secured admission into 300 level/3rd year in a Public University.

MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS):

  • Blind Students in Universities or Colleges of Education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.5
  • For blind students in public polytechnics, it is required to have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program. Additionally, they must have obtained admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) Program.
