Sony is preparing to bring further PlayStation exclusives to PC

At the beginning of last month, Sony did something that no one saw approaching in advance. It released PlayStation limited title Horizon Zero Dawn on PC via Steam. This was a statement that took fans by shock and was welcomed by PC gamers who don’t own a PlayStation. It looks as if that was just the start as we are expected to see more such releases in the future.

Sony’s Corporate Report 2020 document states that the company’s plans on releasing more PlayStation exclusives on PC. This is merely an idea in thought currently with no assurance on if it will truly get carried out. One more thing to keep in mind is that even if Sony chooses to go on with more launches, it is hard to guess what exclusive titles will be selected and when it will be available.

It looks like the idea behind porting exclusives to PCs is to boost revenue streams but Sony is also devoted to making PlayStation as the first-choice platform for gaming. This implies that it might prefer the titles that are possible to lure PC gamers into buying a fresh Sony gaming console. We by now know that Horizon Forbidden West has been announced for PlayStation 5 and through the release of Horizon Zero Dawn on PC, it could be expecting PC fans to go for the next-gen console.

This is the official statement revealed in the report:

“SIE aims to achieve robust revenue growth by accelerating the virtuous cycle that has been established for the PlayStation Platform. This entails increasing active users and playtime, enhancing network services, and reinforcing content IP so that consumers select PlayStation as their platform of choice. Targeted outcomes include growth in active users, stronger retention, and a shorter cash conversion cycle, from which expanded cash flow can be expected. We will explore expanding our 1st party titles to the PC platform, in order to promote further growth in our profitability.”
