Windows Update is Causing issues with Optane Memory

Microsoft’s Windows 10 update which came out may 2020  (Windows 10 version 2004) is causing a problem for some users. Reportedly, Users with Intel’s Optane memory are specifically affected after the update. Several users have complained about the same through several channels and Microsoft has apparently provided no fix to it.
WindowsLatest spotted these complaints and reported Windows 10 May 2020 is apparently causing issues with Intel Optane memory. While the tech publication dedicated to all things Windows has reported the complaint links of affected users, it has also run the tests on its own to find out what’s happening.

Users have asked for help via Intel Forum, Twitter, and even the Feedback Hub. One such example is embedded below where Microsoft has even responded but with no fix. Microsoft addressed it as a seemingly incompatible update with Intel Optane memory and advised to rather update the corresponding driver.

According to the snapshot shared, the Optane memory pinnings aren’t migrated to the new update, so Windows is trying to launch those missing DLLs.
To the uninitiated ones, the Optane memory by Intel ensures faster data transfer between the memory, storage, and processor. It is often regarded as an option that works at the speed of a budget SSD.

Microsoft did list some known issues with Windows 10 May 2020 but this incompatibility issue of the update with the Optane memory was not listed and it has just now been discovered.
Reportedly, Microsoft is not offering the Windows 10 May 2020 update to those with Intel Optane memory. So, if you are running  Intel’s Optane memory, it is advisable for you not to download the latest update and wait until this issue is resolved, so you don’t face performance issues.
