Google certifies Fuchsia OS’s ‘Sapphire’ through Bluetooth SIG

Prior to software or devices which use Bluetooth can be made accessible to everybody it requires to be permitted by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). A portion of Google’s long-in-development Fuchsia OS has been listed with the Bluetooth SIG.

In the past years, we’ve been waiting as Google has built a new OS, Fuchsia, entirely from the beginning. Even, Fuchsia particularly prides itself on not being based on Linux, not like Chrome OS and Android.

Google’s community of fans and developers have developed eager for what Fuchsia could potentially offer, being a totally latest operating system built for devices of pretty literally all varieties. Since it was first revealed, yet, Fuchsia has gotten very little in the way of users attention from Google.

A new listing from Google LLC which just arrived tonight at the Bluetooth SIG for “Google Sapphire 1.0 Bluetooth Core Host Solution.”Google made it known that from past research into Google’s Fuchsia OS that “Sapphire” the internal codename for Fuchsia’s Bluetooth stack, and Sapphire’s description on the Bluetooth SIG website also calls out Fuchsia distinctively.

To have a portion of an operating system appear at the Bluetooth SIG is really a practically frequent incidence. Android and Chrome OS have had their Bluetooth software recertified a few times each, to accommodate for major changes over the years.

Therefore what do we learn from this new listing? Sadly, not much beyond the fact that Fuchsia will continue with Bluetooth 5.0 and it should not come as a surprise, as it is the most up to date edition of Bluetooth. In detail, we before now knew Fuchsia had been well-known at a private Bluetooth SIG 2018 event in 2018.

The better question now should be why has Google put in the effort to get Fuchsia, which still feels like a skunkworks development, certified by the Bluetooth SIG? All we can really do is speculate for now.

My belief is that it is an extra step just before Fuchsia is being publicly unveiled, particularly seeing as Fuchsia has seemingly reached the “dogfood” stage of growth in the past few months. On the other hand, it’s likewise promising that Fuchsia’s arrival at the Bluetooth SIG could have no deeper importance at all.
