Xperia 1 II with 12GGB of RAM Unveiled by Sony in limited edition Frosted Black color

Presently, if you would like to buy a Sony Xperia 1 II in Japan, you have to go through a carrier – Docomo or au – but that is about to change from October 30 as Sony is getting ready to launch a SIM-free edition. You might be interested in this launch still if you’re not in Japan as this phone will boast of 12 GB of RAM.

However, you can only buy 8 GB models currently, in Japan and somewhere else. In addition, the carrier phones had only 128 GB of storage whereas the SIM-free one will equal the global models with 256 GB. It’s unknown if the 12 GB version will be made available out of the country though.

This is an embarrassment given that it will be available in a limited edition Frosted Black with a dull finish (as different to the glossy finish of the recent color options). Two more colors are planned – Purple and White.

Aside from the RAM and Paint, the new Xperia 1 II version (XQ-AT42) will be alike to the existing phones (so no S865+ upgrade or anything). The price is set at JPY 124,000 and you can pre-order one today.

Sony will in addition release dual SIM, SIM-free versions of the old Xperia 5, and Xperia 1. These will once more have double the storage of the domestic models (which had 64 GB), nevertheless, the RAM is still 6 GB.

Pre-orders for these are before now underway and they are prepared to be shipped on the 28th of August. Xperia 1 will cost JPY 79,000 and will be available in Purple and Black. The Xperia price is JPY 69,000 and will come in Black, Gray, Red, and Blue.
